...is originally from Sacramento, CA, and according to his parents, he was singing before he could talk. He picked up the standup bass at age 14, and aside from a few master classes with Jerry Pineda and Lisa Mezzacappa, Chris is primarily self-taught on his instrument. In 2013, he graduated from UC Berkeley with Highest Honors in English with a focus on American poetry and a minor in creative writing. There he worked closely with poets such as Lyn Hejinian and Geoffrey G. O’Brien, as well as playwrights including Philip Kan Gotanda, and great improvisationalists such as Myra Melford. While studying in France in 2011, he traveled, played music, and busked on the streets of Europe. Today his playing style falls somewhere among his influences of funk legend Bootsy Collins and improvisational instrumentalists such as Mark Dresser.
